for some odd reason my H wont start. I push the button and it just barely spins the starter. and the lights dont work when you turn them on. now she starts when you crank it by hand. then once she does start and is running and you turn the lights on she dies. what could be the problem?

Sounds like you have battery ignition and when you turn on the lights, the battery voltage gets too low to produce a spark causing the engine to stall.
Your charging system is not doing it's job; check the generator brushes and related parts. Be sure all connections are clean & tight.
As another contributor mentioned, your battery may be failing; have it tested or get a new one.

Was having the same problem with my B 414. Even got considerable smoke from around the starter when I tried to start it.

Decided to do the cheap things first. Bought 36 bucks worth of #1 gauge wire for the pos battery to the starter switch and from the starter switch to the starter.

Pushed the switch and the starter came on like a new one, spun faster than I've ever heard it and started the ol' girl in 4 or 5 revolutions.

I've only pull started the tractor once, started faster than I've ever seen it start, so I was convinced that there was something wrong with the starting system. I can't believe how close I came to pulling the starter and rebuilding it...at a cost of $90.

Hope you have the same success.

Sounds like either #1 A dead or dying battery, or #2 something shorting out somewhere in your system--maybe your pos/neg cables at the battery are toast?? ==Jeff
