I just got the '51 Super A moved from Albuquerque to the Texas Coast. It ran great when it was loaded on the trailer, but it is surging now that it is in it's new home environment.

The ol' tractor sat for several months, but started right up when it was loaded. When I started it to get it off the trailer, it smoked for a bit at idle, blue smoke, like a light blow by, then cleared up.

I had trouble keeping it running, it surged some then a belt broke and I had to shut it off.

I'll be getting a service and owner's manual, but in the mean time, anybody got any suggestions about what to do?

I figure that all the fluids get changed, air cleaner serviced, any other filters that I can find get changed as well. Plugs and points get a good look, new belts and hoses, grease every zerk that I can find, clean the engine, etc.

I think the timing would be a little different at this altitude, something on the range of 4000 feet of altitude difference, but I'm not sure about that.

By the way, it came with a set of plows that are set opposite of each other, single big colter, so that you can plow with one, then turn around and plow with the other?????

Also has a very banged up 7 foot sickle bar mower. Did have the original disk, that was given away before we got there. Sigh.

Anyway, I've got a fun little project for the summer, fixing and painting. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm thinking that you are both right. Thanks for the input.

Tonight, I took off the hood and got the old belts off, took off the muffler and the air cleaner, which was pretty gunked up.

I think that a general overall cleaning will do a world of good. With all the fluids fresh, I'll see how she fires up and runs.

There is a nice little drip from the sediment bowl area, so it may be sucking a little air, too.

Thanks again.

I took a B from IOWA to COLORADO in the mtns where we had a summer place. The alt was 10,000 never changed a thing even had the tractor up around 11,000. It was there for 9yrs and then brought it back to IOWA and never changed nothing it has been here for 11yrs since. Never changed anything so do as you feel neccessary.

UFO man, I'd bet on gas tank junk being stired up because of vibration in transport instead of altitude change. Clean and inspect tank and carb before changing the settings. My nickel Dick Davis
