400 hydralic question?

When using the secound set of remotes on my 400. The cylinder looses pressure allowing the implement to drop.
I was thinking I had a bad cylinder but after thinking about it for a minute. I think it must be in the valve. As the cylinder would have fluid in both halfs. Its not leaking so the pressure must be leaking off some where else.
Any ideas?

Kelly, there probably isn't a hydraulic valve out there with will leak down some. Older worn vavles will leak more the new ones. IH offered a hydraulic for the hydratouch block that attaches to the battery box for the 2 point lift. This block can be added to each of the two hydraulic blocks that are under the fuel tank. The part number is 362 705 R91. Every 300 through 450 that was equiped with a 2 point fast hitch had at least one check valve. The check valve required the engine to be running and the hydratouch lever to be in the lowing position for the hitch to lowered. Hope this helps.

If seal is bad in cylinder and you extend it all the way out and unhook the hoses and no leakage the cylinder will not drop down, with the oil locked in, the rod can not go back in, it has no place to go, oil goes from one side to other of the piston and builds static pressure on both sides.

Kelly, I think if you just raise the implement and then disconnect the remotes you will see what's happening. If you have it disconnected and it still goes down it's your cylinder, if it stays up it's your valve. This assumes it doesn't leak out visably when disconnected.

Yea sometimes a different set of eyes, you know how it goes. I was playing with my hydraulics all weekend. So I kind of have it on the brain. Somehow I got mine working by just dumb luck. I had no idea what I was doing but finally figured it out. I have a Farmall M wth an M&W pump on it plumbed to nowhere in a circle. The sump was empty for god knows how long. Now I have an M with live hydraulics to a cylinder and a spare valve for a three point I want to put on it. Now that I know the pump works I don't mind spending the money on a three point hitch.

Could easily still be the cylinder. It may be leaking past the seal on the ram. If that happens the oil just goes betwen the front of the cylinder and the back. No leaks are visable. If you can move the cylinder to a different location or use a different cylinder it will prove where the problem is.
