I love Farmalls and have three of them, but here's the way it goes:

Someone buys a running M for $1500.00. They get new tires, take care of any mechanical issues, maybe a new radiator, rebuild the gen. and starter, paint it, etc., you know how it goes. Before long, they've put over another $1500.00 in the M and now think they have an M that's worth $3000.00 or more. Well, the laws of reality and the market place say that what this person now has is really and $1800.00-$2000.00 M.

The moral? Don't get into this game to make money.

Hi...My father passed away and left two old Farmall tractors. The one I own is running and was garage kept /oil changed regular. The Model is 140 61 Serial 66584J. I could not find any information on this one. The tractor has a working belly plow and the seat is in good shape. Could you give me an idea of what is worth and how I can sell it other than the newspaper.

Thanks much Betty Mackey

W-4 Man, When you say restoration, I'm assuming you put quite a bit of time ans money into it. I doubt very much that its market value will be anything near what YOU think it is. Market value is what someone is willing to pay at the time you decide to sell it. If you auction it, it takes two people that want it to establish a price, and then you may or may not like the results. If you advertise it, and it doesnt sell, you are asking more than the market in your area is willing to pay, if you sell it the first day to the first person who comes along, then perhaps you sold too cheap. There is no benchmark to these tractors. Its what two people can agree upon is what the value is.

I agree with Dave_Id. In average condition, $1000-$1500. It may be a collectors tractor, but is not rare, IH built over 24000 of them.

First off, what do you call a restoration? A total rebuild, engine, all the seals, tires, and everything new?. Or just slapping a paint job over the dirt?
