My 1940 H does not have a shifter knob nor does it appear to have threads for one. Are they supposed to have one or are they somewhat pointed on the end. I thought about trying to put one on it for safety reasons anyway.

Drill a hole in a golf ball of your choice of color and push it on. Cheaper than free

There is a rubber knob that goes on the shift lever. Try a dealer or aftermarket supplier.

They had a rubber push on knob - available at your local CaseNewHolland dealer for about $7 - or check on eBay.
