Farmall M Crankshaft

The rod journals and mains were .002"
under size and the shaft looked terrible, but wasn't scored. I just had the shaft polished. It looked like new one after being degreased and
polished. I plowed the garden with it and had it out front taking pictures and a man stopped and wanted to know if it for sale. He said he had never driven a tractor and wanted me to give him a driving lesson. I let him run it 2nd gear
around the area then had him to put it 4th. He ran that tractor to his home about 15 miles from here. He had abeely mounted rotary mower installed. I saw the tractor about 10 or 12 years later and they were still mowing with it.

I restored 6 Standard Twin and Viking garden tractors. They were made in the late 30s
ad early 40s. Most were on steel the later ones were on rubber. Most of engines were in sad shape. They used babbitted bearings on the rods. The mains were cylinder shaped. They were made in MN and used by truck farmers. I sent the rods to Federal Mogul to be rebabbitted. I had the cranks machined at a local shop. I sent the crank dimensions along with the rods.

These tractors were way ahead of their time since they used no belts. All gear driven
they used a multi-disc clutch that ran in oil. An oil pump in the differential to lube the upper gears. They even had a pto that ran out the back of the transmission.

I still have the moldboard plow from one of these tractors adapted to fit my Cub Cadet.
