Farmall 560 - RIb or implement tire question

I just put a new 3-rib 6.00-16 tire on my 560 last fall. Was over at the neighbors moving manure yesterday and "found" a broken metal fencepost with the "old" 6.00-16 on the other side, boy did I lose air fast!

In order to finish (tire store closed) I took a brand-new 15" spare implement wheel/tire from one of my grain wagons (only one I had with right bolt pattern) and threw that on. It was same height as the 16" tractor front, but a tad wider.

My question is: I have to buy one new tire/tube to get a matched set on the 560, should I but another 16" tractor front (6-ply on there now) or another 15" implement tire (8-ply now). I have a loader on the tractor and was thinking the implement tire may be too bouncy, but it would be nice to have the extra flotation/less compaction in the hay field. I have never ran anything but 3-rib tractor fronts before.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Brent: I used 7.50x16 triple rib front tractor tires 10 ply on my 560 and 656 for years. You may as well have both side traction and carrying capacity all in one. Without ribs and and doing field work without loader on, you will find it slides a lot especially turning.

If you look a bit larger at 100 hp plus, you put duals on them to max the pull on big implements, then they beat the crap out of a 2 well drive front. They needed 24 inch tires and driving to correct the problem. Those 60 hp tractors 2 wheel drive need the ribs, even with a loader.

6-ply anything is a waste of time if you have a loader on the tractor, IMHO. You definitely want the 3-rib tire, but make sure you get at least 8-ply rated, or you're going to be changing those tires about every year.

If you want good steering, especially in loose soil, go with the three rib. If you want flotation and are mostly on dry hard surfaces, go with the implement tire.

Brent, If the choice is between the 3-rib and the implement tire..... I choose the implement tire.
Because with a loader on your tractor, you need the extra carring capacity of the implement tires, for they are used alot on NH3 trailers all the time and do very well. Especially if you are carring round bales any distance at all with your tractor. The down side of the bigger tires are that steering will not be what it should be in mud.
Though my personal favorite tire are the 20 ply airplane tires. My set has been on since 1996. I just got a new to me set of used tires but I havent gotten them mounted up yet. I am going to get another set of rims before do.This set of mine are on a 966 and I am really happy with the preformance I have gotten. The side wall won't give very much when moveing roundbales and other heavy loads. Flats....practilly nonexistsant. I have only had 2 surenough flats on my set.
Good Luck,
John A.

I think the reason for the ribbed tire is side to side "traction" in loose soil. If you don't do much tillage work, perhaps even if you do, the implement tire will be fine. I have implement tires on the wide front on my M, mainly because I was in a hurry and the dealer did not have the ribbed tires in stock, but about all I ever use on it is a blade. I really don't know why the implement tire would bounce more, perhaps someone can explain that to me.
