I've got a freind trying to talk me into buying a 560 for pulling, i was thinking what's the chances i could get something with a dt360 and machine it out to fit 414 or 436 pistons and crank (have to have OE block for farm stock around here. internals are open for interpretation), or are the blocks too dissimilar? and what models were available with a tubo'd 360?

The DT360 block is shorter by several inches. No way a 400-series crank will fit.

To the best of my knowledge, the 766 and early 886 tractors used the D360. Neither had turbos.

As far as power and torque, you can't beat a 360, especially one out of a truck or bus with the inline injector pump. The torque rise is incredible.

i figured the block dimensions were different. I bet I could get a custom stroker crank maybe? have to look into it, might go pulling or buy a little 500 dozer i saw over the weekend.

Take a old rough 706 gasser and find a DT 407 and put that in and call it a 1256 as there is a lot that can be done to a 407.

been there, done that.what ever you can do to a 407 can be done to the 360 and the 360 will beat it on the dyno.
the 300 and 400 series engine are not to be played with in hp. the 407 is a tough engine but the head restricts it and they do not like to rpm like the newer series does.
a 407 with alot of work will turn 5000,a 300 series with a pump lines and injector change and added turbo will run well over 6000 with no internal mods.
i did manage 750hp out of the 407,but then it did not hold together too good any more,3 passes was the most i could get before something broke.

couldn't the block be machined to fit the longer stroke/larger journals or is the block too narrow for it?

pistons will fit,crank will not.
766 had a d360 but i don't know of anything other than trucks that use the DT360.
