My father has just told me of a lady who is selling her late husband's Farmall tractor and it is painted blue. To my knowledge there where no blue farmalls. I do not know of the model or year, he just said that is is blue. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!

I have seen blue Farmalls before. A local gas company had several that had ditch witch attachments built to them.

I guess it could have been a war-time military tractor used by the navy, or maybe the air force after the war. I have been kicking around the notion of painting up my 1942 M in olive drab with military buzz numbers and markings. It would certainly turn some heads at shows.

I seen a blue H the other day, but no Farmalls were painted blue to the best of my knowledge.

According to Guy Fay's originallity guide, IH didn't get hung up on paint color, they'd paint the tractor whatever color you paid 'em to.

Check under the bell housing and around seams, if there was another color on there first, that's where it will show up. Some folks will throw any paint they can find on a tractor!!!

Everyone to his own, it's a free country. My neighbor has a FARMALL M that he painted John Deere green.

Their was a blue Farmall on the back of a semi heading south thru Chicago last night. the second thing I noticed was that the rear axles did not connect directly to the wheels but to an assembly that lifted the rear end up about a foot. What would that be?

That might be what is called the "final drive" which is gears to reduce the speed of the wheels and give them more torque. As far as blue goes the first farmalls were painted battleship gray until 1937 when it was changed to red. This gray sometimes looks sort of blue with the right light and angle.
