actually the gear shift lever is a solid piece of metal so it cannot be a vent.cnks is correct in that there is no vent.there is no seal around the gear shift lever which allows the trans to vent itself.

Pardon me, I should have said gear shift assembly. That is the vent. Trying hard for fight tonight, but then those are the guys thet will never use their own name.

Yup, lever isn't sealed, didn't think of that one. I started to mention all the leaking gaskets and seals were vent enough, but decided not to. In 5 years or so I'm going to check and see if I have water in the trans/diff in a couple of my tractors. Trans has been completely cleaned in both, they are always inside, used very little, any water will have to be condensation.

Don: Actually a bit more to it than doesn't have one. It actually does and it is the gear shift lever itself. The shift lever will give all the venting that is needed. Not actually a top of the line system. That is why those old Farmalls that set out in the rain have watery transmission oil.
