Going to look at a 544 diesel tomorrow. Guy says TA and PTO don't work rear tires beat. Says has 2 hyd pumps. 3pt and sterring fine. Wants $2000. Can the TA be worked on externally or do I have to spilt the tractor ? Also is the PTO easily accessable to work on ? I am good with cars/trucks but new to tractors. Would this be worth buying or are there to many headaches?

Hey Doug. For my money the IH 484 utility is the tractor. With the German D-179 40+hp diesel. Live PTO, hydraulics, power steering, wide fronts, 3 pt. hitch, remote hookups for loader or what have you, 4 spd. with Hi-Lo gives you 8 gears. Great power! And you can buy them for around $3500. Much more tractor for the money and you don't have to mess with TA's.

Have to split the tractor for R&R of the T/A. LPTO gearbox is external mount on the very back if That's where the problem is. If not the problem is probably up by where the T/A is....
