Super H Restoration - What all gets painted Red?

I am finishing my Super H (stage II) restoration and would like to be sure I paint all parts Red as they originally came from the factory. It may be easier to identify the items that are not Red such as the distributor cap and plug wires as noted in Guy Fay's book.
What about the hydraulic hoses and coupler, voltage regulator, starter, gas line, fuel bowl assembly, electrical wires, radiator hoses, etc.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

David

I like to clear coat the axles with a spray can- seems like they like to rust and the clear paint keeps it from happening. I know I'm wrong, but I like to not paint red on things like hydraulic hoses/ends because anything different than red makes the tractor more interesting to look at.

Don't paint the O.D. of the stering wheel or the lenses of the lights or charge indicatoe glass.
Muffler is not red either. ;o]

I think it is a sediment bowl, not bulb. ;o]

Guy Fay is correct, of course. But, IH was not in the paint business, the tractors were quickly painted with little masking. Therefore anything on the tractor got painted red. In my opinion, belts, hoses, gear shift knobs, etc look much better in the natural black, the paint won't last anyway. Anything made of metal should be red (except the rims). The axles were not painted. The regulator being black is a new one on me -- will have to look at some of Guy's pictures. Mine was black when I purchased the tractor, the only paint of any color left -- I assumed it had been replaced, perhaps not.

I think it mentions in the book that the regulator gets left black (probably to help heat dissapation). Otherwise, paint red except the sediment bulb (for obvious reasons. THe hydraulic couplers are an interesting question- haven't seen photos of the back end of the tractor getting painted to see if they are masked or not on the tractor for the main spray, and the IH instruction do give some wiggle room.

Guy,

Thank you for the information. Just to recap, the only items not painted would include the steering wheel covering, glass fuel bowl, seat covering, distributor cap, spark plug wires, light lenses, gauge lenses and regulator. I assume the serial number tag is not painted. Correct? Was the tag on the starter also left unpainted? I have seen it both ways.
I'll do more research on the hydraulic coupler.
Otherwise, all hydraulic hoses, radiator hoses, electrical wires, sheet metal, castings, starter, etc. would have been painted at the IH factory.

Great job on your book. It has been very helpful.

Starter was painted red except for the data tag (generator was the same way), serial tag was masked off or added after painting.
