Hi all--
I"ve got a pto generator hooked up to my 51 M. I need to know if there is a fine adjustment to the throttle speed on the M. I think it would be moving those two nuts under the hood that the throttle linkage/governor linkage is hooked to which also has a spring between those two nuts. Is this the way to get a finer adjustment of the engine speed? IH built those throttle handles with those notches and it seems that one notch is too low of a speed for the generator and the other is too fast!!!

So, is this adjustment under the hood the way to go, and if so, what"s the procedure?

Thanks for any info you can supply!!!

It's not the speed adjustment, sounds like you have a governor or maybe a carb problem, or perhaps your pto generator is not working properly. One thing about the notches, you can count them and get the same speed everytime, provided everything is working properly.

just a saying, means "that won't work", "that dog don't hunt" I didn't think the linkage adjustment under the hood would fix your problem.

The best solution is replace the existing factory rachet throttle handle with an M&W friction lever or equivalent. The friction throttle gives you stepless adjustment across the whole speed range.

TISCO sells a Chinese-made knockoff of the M&W lever. Doesn't look as good as the real thing, but it works fine. Price is $25 or so.

Thanks for the heads up on the throttle option. This would be exactly what I"m looking for. I did adjust the throttle linkage under the hood as described above on the original post. However, I can see that buying one of those friction throttles you have mentioned would really be the way to go.

Thanks again for the info.
