1206 hyd problems

We bought this tractor in May of this year. At that time we thought we would put it on the batwing mower to see if there were any problems with the tractor before restoring. At that time we found the hyds would lift the mower (2-way cylinder) but not raise the wings (single acting) so replaced the pressure relief valve with a new 2500psi prv which cured the problem.

In late June the hyds quit, p.s. & brakes still worked, which we found was from the key shearing in the pump drive gear. At that time a new o-ring & gasket was installed (work done by our CIH dealer).

This afternoon the tractor got where it would only lift the mower if the engine was wide open. When the engine was shutoff you could see the 3pt hitch & mower settle down. Standing at the side of the tractor you could also hear hyd oil returning to the rearend.

What do you think the problem is - bad o-ring where the pump mounts, pressure relief valve gone bad, or another problem? I have not had a chance to put a test guage in the remotes. Plan on doing this in the a.m. plus putting the old prv back in.

TIA,
boog

Boog first of all get that 2500 Psi relief out of there that is why the key sheered off. The 1206 would have had no more than 1800 PSI relief and that was very good for the 1206, most likley the relief was not at full pressure, because the 2500 PSI would lift the bat wing, if 1800 PSI will not lift the bat wing put on bigger cylinder. Now for the setteling, you said the 3 point and mower both. If that is the case then you have 2 problems. First if the mower is setteling that is either in the cylinder leaking buy the ram oring or leaking by the remote valve on the tractor in which case you could put on a check valve on the tractor to stop the mower from going down. As for the three point hitch if it is setteling with the engine off you have a leak in side the rear end in the hitch hydraulics. Could be the cylinder seal could be oring where the valves goes on the cylinder, could be the valve and then could be the coushion relief valve leaking. A lot of people thing it could be oring some place as you said at the pump or a long the system some place or relief valve, but once the oil as been pumped into the cylinder as on the mower or into the hitch everything before the valve is no out of the loop and only the valve and cylinder and related parts between valve and cylinder can cause setteling. As for lifting only at high RPM's you will have to check the pump to see if it is pumping 12 GPM.

Aces, When we bought the tractor it had a 1750# pressure relief valve in it. The tractor would lift the main mower (3"x8" 2-way)cylinder but not the wings (2"x8" single acting). Our CIH service manager recomended putting the 2500# p.r.v.. After that we didn't have any problems until the key sheared. CIH dealer replaced the key & o-ring and things worked fine unti Friday when all of a sudden it got to where the tractor had to be at full rpms to lift the mower.

Yesterday we checked the psi at the remotes and it was 300# at an idle and 2500# at 2,400 rpms. We then put back in the old pr valve & readings were still 300# at an idle & 1800 # at 2,400 rpm.
Today we took the top link plate off of the back of the tractor & check to see if there were any unusual leaks.

I will admit I am not very mechanically inclined when it comes to the internal workings of a tractor. I did find what I felt were suspicious oil flows. One was coming from above the ring gear along with one running down the right side of the housing straight across from it. Another was a dripping down on the draft control linkage (?)at the right rear of the housing. These leaks (if in fact that is what they are) increased with engine rpms. A final stream about the size of a thick pencil lead was between the end of the 3pt lift cylinder & the rear of the housing. This stream of oil didnot increase with rpms. I did see a return tube to the left side of the housing in front of the ring gear & what appeared to be another (poor mirror) towards the rear, also appearing to be on the left side.

Sorry to be so vague on the descriptions.
