I"m new to tractors. I am pretty confused by what seems to be an identity crisis anything IH made. I"m looking at a 1956 300. It has the IH hood ornament, a "McCormick" emblem on the side and the "Farmall". So how do you correctly refer to it?

International Harvestor 300
Farmall 300
McCormick 300
International Harvestor Farmall 300
International Harvestor Farmall McCormick 300
Farmall McCormick 300
McCormick Farmall 300
Farmall McCormick International Harvestor 300
McCormick Farmall International Harvestor 300
etc. I"m sure folks would know what I meant no matter which one of these I use ,but it sure is confusing for us new guys.

You should call your 300 a "Farmall 300". It is technically a "McCormick Farmall 300 built by International Harvester". If it was a utility model you would call it a "International 300" which is technically a "McCormick International 300 Utility built by International Harvester". Generall speeking, from the 20's to the 50's, Row crop IHC tractors were "Farmall", standard wheel tractors were "McCormick" or "McCormick Deering", and industrial tractors were "International". From the mid 50's on, Standard and utility tractors were "International" rather than "McCormick". Row crop tractors retained the "Farmall" designation through the 66 series of tractors after which all tractors were simply "International". Harold H

Farmall is the name used to designate the row-crop version of International Harvester tractors. McCormick was an old trusted name left over from the early farm equipment days and was dropped in the 60sor early 70s. You are correct to use the Farmall name.

Case had nothing to do with International Harvester at the time of the Farmall 300.
