I made a posting on here earlier about the hydraulic system on my grandpa"s 350. There seems to be a relief valve or something that isn"t working on it, because it grinds and moans whenever it"s running, as if there is way too much pressure there.

We removed the block from the tractor that contains the regulator and safety valves and took it apart. The valve that controls whether the hydraulic pressure goes to the system or the power steering motor seemed to have a bit of corrosion on it, so we lightly sanded it and put it back together.

When we first started it, everything seemed fine and it didn"t make the noise anymore. But, as soon as my uncle tried to use it for raking hay, enough to get everything warmed up, it started to make the noise again.

Now, we"re completely stumped. Can anyone help us?

Thanks a lot,
Nathan in MN

It sounds like you"re on the right track. That valve probably causes about 90% of the poblems in that system. Take it back apart and have another look. Might need a little more sanding. After you got the cover off of the valve, did you see what looked like a flat screw head? Turn it out, it"s actually a screen that often gets plugged or collapses. Clean it or replace it.
