You bought a good tractor! I've got a 350U (same tractor, really). 12 volt conversion is easy. Get a GM alternator with built in regulator, take it to an automotive rebuilder and have him do a 1 wire conversion. Hook the 1 wire to your ammeter and it'll work fine. One REALLY helpful hint is to order an adjustable v-belt from a wood workers supply catalog. These are made of segments you can hook together (and unhook). LOTS easier than taking off your fan belt to put the new belt on. I've been using one for 5+ years with no problems. If you're careful, you can get it under the hood, completely hidden from the "correctness" Police that like to pick on us folks that modify old tractors.

Power steering is possible, IF you got deep pockets and time to find the parts. I replaced my worn out power steering gearbox with one out of a wrecked tractor from Montana. I got a steal at $650, plus HEAVY shipping costs. You'll also need some hydraulic modifications to run it, but they're pretty simple. BE SURE YOU GET THE POWER STEERING DIVERTER/REGULATOR VALVE that goes with it. THey're darn near IMPOSSIBLE to locate seperately. (Took me 3 years to find another one).

I've done everything on my tractor that you're thinking of. I've unhidden my email if you have any specific questions.

Where are you located - I have a Wagner loader that came off of my 300U that I don"t plan to put back onto the tractor again. I"m near Rochester, NY.

Well it looks like I'll be looking for a power steering unit for awhile. one more question for you my pto is engaged when I start her up I try to disengage but will only stop turning if I hold the lever down, is their an adjustment to be made or is this a more serious problem

The pto on my is just thick. LOL By that I mean it turns with the fluid friction even tho it's shut off. Try shutting the tractor off and turning the shaft by hand. If it turns stiffly it's the same as mine, which works good when I want it to.

Don't have all the answers, but I will try. The 12 volt can be done a couple of ways, plenty of people here to help with that. The power steering - I have been trying to find a power steering system for mine for several years. No luck so far. I put a loader on it - adapted from another IH product. BTW - if you put a loader on - you might need power steering!!! Irv
