Hydraulics on 560 running

The fasthitch hydraulics stay running, I tried moving the lever up and down repeatedly and it will shut off when fasthitch is moving up or down but as soon as it's all the way down or up the pump starts howling and pulls the engine down 100 rpms or so. Does this make sense to anyone?

I had the same problem on a 460 Utility. Once the fasthitch quit moving, the pump would squeal and bog the motor down. Before I tore into the valve bank, I checked the filter. I found both the filter and bypass were plugged, not allowing fluid into the pump fast enough, causing starvation and squealing. Might want to check your filter and fluid levels first.

Donny. Captain and Joe are both right, but when you are in the relief and looking at the orifice make sure the unload valve and piston are in good shap and the oring on the piston is good. The 560 has an open center system and the unload valve must un load the system or you have high pressure and it will pull the engine and make the hydraulics very hot.

Joe’s reply is right on the mark unless one of the two following is causing the “running” you describe.

If one of the remote valves (where you set it for either double or single acting cylinders) is in a bad position it will cause the “running” condition you describe. If you have changed any of these lately because of changing types of cylinders used on the remotes, this might be the cause. Try turning them to a slightly different position to see if the “running” stops. If so, you have found the cause, now you just need to play with the setting until the cylinder works correctly and the “running” is gone.

This one is not as likely but can happen. If the “running” stops with the fast hitch somewhere between all the way up and all the way down, then the stops for the touch control lever for up and down are adjusted to a position that is impossible for the hitch to get to. This adjustment is regulated by the two set-screws “stops” for the lever that actuates the fast hitch. In this case you need to screw them in further so that the lever stops while the cylinder is still in the range where the position you have selected is obtainable.

Sure do.

Your hydraulic system is staying in a hi-pressure condition--the only 'rest' it gets is when it has a chance to move oil through relatively large openings such as actuating the fast hitch cylinder.

The hydraulic pump has to move oil at all times, or it will damage itself and other stuff. When hydraulic oil (pressure) IS NOT diverted to actuating the fast hitch cylinder or remote cylinders, the pump's output MUST be diverted back to back to the sump. This is accomplished by the regulator and orifice plug/screen. IF these aren't doing their jobs (unloading the system by dumping hydraulic pump output oil to the sump), THEN hydraulic oil has to scream through the relief valve. This situation will most definitely bog down the 560.

Most likely the orifice plug/screen is blocked by crud. Consult your manual for their location. They're very easy to remove and clean. There are some other things that may cause the hi-pressure condition you describe, but the orifice plug/screen is the first place to look IMO.
