Can someone tell me the physical size of the battery for a Farmall C? The tractor is 20 miles away from me and it needs a new battery (6V) and I would like to pick one on my lunch break. Is this something that a place like Murry"s Auto Parts would have? I know that there no extra room arround the battery so the size is inportant.

...And just a reminder, it"s probably a positive ground system.

Yep it is. I have a Ford 2N that I'm used to working on, so I know enough to recognize a 6V positive ground system.

Thanks, the group 1 was the key. Best price in my area is AutoZone, $40.

Jerry: Here in northern NY, any NAPA or similar will usually carry one of these in stock, and they have the books to tell you what size you need. It's a fairly common battery, and shouldn't be a problem. I got my last one off-the-shelf at NAPA--if you're in a farming community, it's worth their while to keep a couple around as lots of the older tractors used the same battery.

I don't know the exact size of the battery, but if you have looked at the old one and it is a 6 volt, you will know it when you see it. Try to get an actual tractor battery...they are better suited to being bounced around and beat up....I would be a little surprised if an auto parts store would have a 6 volt battery...you would be better off going to a tractor supply or central tractor type place. Just my thoughts...

AutoZone and Advance Auto both carry Group 1 6 Volt batteries in this area, as does NAPA.
