I am currently putting a 1939 F-20 back together after tearing it down and painting it. The one thing I don't remember is whether there are cloth strips between the hood and the gas tank and between the hood and radiator. I know there are strips under the gas tank on both supports and also under the metal straps that hold the gas tank down, but can't remember about the hood. I hope someone can help. Thanks!

I think Rice Equipment has the webbing. Some old tractors were assembled with zero cushioning between straps, hoods, and tanks, resulting in rust and holes. When doing a restoration, I don't like to reassemble these components without some sort of cushioning material, as I don't want the metal-to-metal contact messing up a nice paint job. I usually take a bicycle inner tube and cut strips that are narrow enough that they won't hardly show under the straps. The rubber is thin and will protect the paint and metal, and will keep water from settling in there when it rains.

There is a cotton webbing strap between the hood and the gas tank, but not the hood and the strap. I just tore down an original condition F-20 that was exactly that way. In fact the gas tank had some small holes rusted in it from the webbing staying moist and allowing the tank to rust. Hope this helps!
