I finally took the time to do the brake job on the 560. If I didn't have the parts tractor, which will some day be restore itself, I wouldn't have finished it yesterday. Fortuately IH uses the same part # for brake housings on both sides. Both of my 560s had cracked housings on the left side. Both tractors needed brake work but my running one was in the worst shape. When I took the right housing off I could hardly see the actuator because of all the crap in there. The actuator retaining springs were all broken but the housing was ok after a good cleaning. I shined up both actuator surfaces with the wire brush wheel, dismanteled and cleaned them, and put graphite on the balls and the brake shaft before I reassembled the brakes. I also painted the housings. After all new springs, I reassembled the brakes and they work just as smooth as any automotive brake. There is no grabbing. I don't ever remember a 560 where the brakes didn't grab. I used to think that was par for the course. I'd never seen the insides of the brakes before but they are quite easy to fix. You just need a little time and patience.

Lance: And you thought they were a miserable brake just two weeks ago. Clean and good springs on the actuators and Farmall disc brakes work well. You will need to clean about every 500 hours of service, especially if tractor is on work where brakes are used turning a lot.

What a coincidence, I just did a brake job on my 560 this last weekend. I put new pads in. They where pretty gunked up but everything cleaned up well and they work great. I can't believe how easy they were to disassemble. I had more time cleaning than I did taking apart and putting back together. Very well designed.
