I have a 856 in my shop with a problem. The engine oil pressure is low, about 25 psi. I put a gauge on oil gallery and it read the same as tractor one. I remove the pan and check the crank bearings, it's like new. I suspect the oil pump. The tractor have a turbo on it. Is the oil pump from a D or DT is the same? May be the flow is not the same. Hey Bernard, check for broken/weak relief spring on pump. Good luck.

Hi Bernie, Did you use plasti-gauge to check the connecting rod and main bearing clearance? Worn cam bearings can cause low oil pressure too. All of these clearances are related in having good oil pressure. If the oil pump has excessive wear
it could be the problem too. This 25-lbs of oil pressure, is it at full throttle or idle? Hal

Did the oil pressure drop all of a sudden or gradually? If it dropped all of a sudden, it could be a faulty gasket in the oil pump. If it happened gradually, it still may be a faulty gasket in the pump, but could also be related to any or all of the bearings in the engine becoming worn. These bearings include the camshaft, crankshaft mains, crankshaft rods, and TURBO bearings. You might want to grab the impeller on the turbo and make sure that it is not moving around in the housing.

Hi, thank for the response. 25 psi at 1800 rpm hot, not more cold oil. The engine have new .010 bearing about 500 hours. The owner bought the tractor past two years, with the turbo on it and same pressure on the gauge. The turbo is a M&W. Does it have a restriction on the turbo lube line. This one have a hydrolic hose on it. I've check the oil pump tomorrow. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Bernard,

Bingo! Low oil pressure cold.....I think you are right track with your thinking.
