noisy hydraulic pump

I have a 350 utility. The hydraulic pump works fine, but is quite noisy. At idle, it is quiet, but at higher engine speeds it is noisy all the time, whether the hydrualic system is being used or not. The pressure pipe coming out of the pump has a slight vibration. The suction pipe is fine. Thought it might be air in the system, but the noise has persisted. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I have serviced the hydraulic system on this tractor, including a new screen (the old one had a nylon stocking around it), new hy-tran fluid, and new o rings. So I think I have addressed most of the suggestions. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

What you describe doesn't sound normal, and probably needs to be fixed before the pump is shot.

Dumb question - is anything obviously loose?

Are your hyraulic lines to and from the pump running hot? If so, you've probably got a problem with the safety/regulator valve (i.e., the system is running at high pressure all the time).

If not, you may have a plugged or collapsed suction screen in the reservoir under the seat starving the pump, especially at higher RPMs. Checking this requires draining the system and opening up the reservoir. Unfortunately, the screen is very easy to damage if you don't lift the top of the reservoir STRAIGHT up.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

If not air in the suction line, then maybe water in the hydraulic fluid, if not that then maybe bad pump :(

btw, I was getting air in the suction line on my 2444 and had no leaks in the line. Apparently they will suck air before they drip fluid. Replaced an O ring and the problem was solved. Also could it have detergent type of oil in it, that can foam up and cause pump vibration/noise.
