The most likely surprise for someone unfamiliar with IH of that era would be the torque amplifier. A very helpful option, but if you don't know to check it before buying it can bite. Do a Search of this site (type "torque amplifier" in the Search block at the top of the Forum page, be sure the 'Search Area" stays on Farmall Forum." Most people will say that the diesel has more guts - by which they usually mean better low end torque. The diesel should save a pile on fuel costs. Even though the per gallon is often as not a few cents more nowdays the gallons per hour will be a lot less. With diesel you'll probably save money on tune ups and carb work (check out all the posts on coils, plugs, points, carb rebuilds, etc.). But when something does go wrong it'll probably cost a lot more. As Clint Eastwood asked, "You feelin' lucky?"
I had a Farmall 350D for a while in high school, maybe 35 years ago. Loved it, but didn't know how to take care of it. It was ten, I was sixteen, I thought it was old and I was a grown-up.
Lord, kids are dumb. Wm

I think the 350 diesel is highly sought after. Dad ran one as a kid and loved it. The only problem is that engine is $$ to work on.

Dan, if my memory serves me well isn't that diesel a Continental, I'm pretty sure the utility was. If that's true good luck on parts.

Yes, the 350D (Farmall and International) has the Continental 4-193 diesel engine--exclusive to these tractors. I'm not aware of this Continental motor being fit in anything else (including marine or industrial applications). My 350D still purrs along.

Quite a contrast to say the Detroit Diesels--fit in anything from buses, boats, trolley cars and even (close your eyes kids) John Deeres.

Dan a very remote possability with a 350 diesel is that it could if parked with other Farmalls and Farmall parts over a period of time, in a dark warm place, evolve into a SHTA(D). It has happened to others! LOL
