Three Point Post Hole Digger on (Farmall 140)

I purchased a Three Point Post Hole digger and
with my (three point adaptor) kit the boom will not go high enough even to mount the auger.
From what I see I will have to weld plates to the
existing center point and lower that point say
8"-10" below the existing location.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thank You

Have one on a Farmall 200. Had to use a short top link, and drilled a new hole through the boom on the PH digger so that the wishbone is a little tipped past vertical towards the tractor. This gave me enough to lift the unit high enough to clear the ground with the tilp of the auger. You might look at the geometry, and benefit from these mods on yours.

I used a 3 point hole digger on my 140 with 3 pt hitch years ago. The hole digger was adjustable so that you could move the bracket on the rigid arm that goes in the top link hole of the tractor. Shortened that up and the 3 point lifted the auger plenty high. It worked great because I had down pressure on the auger and it would go right in even in hard soil. I do agree however, that the 3 point adapter for the 140 is somewhat limited. Not much lift capacity and shorter than normal lift as well as the short top link which limits things. However, it is a small tractor and you can't expect too much.

Thanks Hass,

My problem is that my Center Link on the three
point adaptor is on a plate mounted directly behind the tractor seat. I think the only way I can get enough angle on the boom arm is to somehow
lower the center link down. This would allow for more height at the end of the boom. As it is now the top of the U- yoke of the post hole digger is almost in line with the with my center link. This will not allow much height at the end of the boom. Gary

I'm familiar with the location of the top link. My 140 set up was exactly like that. Can you not adjust the lift arms to the bottom hole so they will be higher up. My 3 pt adapter had several holes where it attached to the rear rockshaft. Use the shortest hole to raise the lift arms as high as possible. Also put the front end of the lift arms in the bottom hole of the bracket. Mine had 3 holes there as I recall. Putting the front of the lift arms in the bottom hole will raise the back end some more. Possibly your hole digger has a different geometry than the one I had.

Hi Gary,

Yes Sir, this is the nature of the turf. Those adaptors are a bit of a joke aren't they?

About the only thing I could ever make 'em work on was a cultivator and then it was such a pain to get the goofy things hooked up.

My view,

Allan

My 460 Utility was the same way, I tried mounting a neighbor's post hole auger and thought I would make some quick work of holes. I fiddled with it for an hour and said screw it, I dug the 6 holes in an hour.

My bro-in-law mounted one on his 560, after some permanent modifications to his 3 point quick link.
