I have a 1086 that appears low on power at high rpms. It cranks perfectly and runs good, but seems to lug when pulling. It has duals and I am pulling a 15' bushhog. All fluid and filters are new. What next..fuel pump? ...turbo? or ?
Thanks,

what are you cutting with that bushhog?
if it is even close to heavy it will make a 10 work hard, they are only a 120 hp tractor and i have seen 75 hp tractors snuffed with a 8 foot 'hog.

I agree with Aces, Go to your local Case IH dealer and get a new hose that goes from the fuel filter to the injection pump. Some have tried to install a piece of Hydraulic hose and the some tractors just do not run right or have any power. The hose is a special hose that is able to absorb the pulse from the charge pump. Good luck MN Charlie

T Hamilton Did you by chance change the rubber hose going from thr charge pump back to the primare filter or is it bad. That hose has to be the facture hose if you just b put on any o hose you will never get the horse power you should. Just a thought.

Does it smoke excessively? If it does it is not the fuel pump, it is restriction or limiting of air supply to the engine.

If it doesn’t smoke, then it is either fuel restriction to the pump or the pump needs help.

Thanks for the info. It smokes some, but not a lot of black smoke like other diesels I've seen. The smoke is minimal and light colored (blue). I put a rebuilt fuel pump on two years. It corrected the cranking problem. There was some geling in the fuel filters when I replaced them. Can I adjust the pump output? How do I know if the turbo is working? I hear a little wistling from it.

Sorry, can"t help with pump specifics or how to test a turbo other than you should feel it"s affect in high gear on the road as the eingine picks up speed especially around 1600 rpm or so.

We have a 1466 that had a similar problem , after changing fuel filters didnt help , we realized the petcock on the bottom of the tank was partially plugged. I removed it cleaned it and now it works fine.

Thanks...two different replies and both point to a fuel flow problem. I will make sure the fuel lines are all clear and see what happens.
