I stopped by a guy's place on Friday. Offered me a IH 2M-HD mounted picker for free (only has picked 500 total acres) along with a parts IH 2-MH picker (custom picked approx. 5000 acres in its time (it's wore out, lol)), and lock, stock and barrel picker parts which he doesn't need anymore. Took the deal. Was happy he didn't have to scrap them. "Everything is going to be sold, given away, or scrapped..." he was telling me about a conversation he had with his brother. I therefore jumped at an IH 76 combine, with a scourkleen, not a dent or scratch on it, complete, with a brand new and I mean brand new canvas. He had it rolled up in a room in the upstairs of his shed, and unveiled it to me. Told me the canvas costed him between 200-250 bucks, and would give me the combine for 200. I have been looking for the right pull type IH for a long time. Sure. Why not? Then he had an IH 46 baler, ol beast, but I thought you know I'm getting a heck of a set up for my Super M's, why not? 50 bucks and let it go. Complete, little rusty, but mine. :) Am I nuts? I look at it this way: I walked away with 3 working implements and a parts implement, all 50's-60's era, for 250. I couldn't turn it down. Am I nuts? I know I'm addicted to red farm equipment, but am I nuts? Thanks for your moral support.

If you've got the $, the room, and the inclination.....then I say grab as many working impliments as you can at those prices. Now if you can put them to use that is even better. One question; how are you gonna hide em from the wife?

That may be a funny joke to you, but it's not. I hope I will be able to pile them in the yard and claim they fell out of the sky than tell her ahead of time that I..."bought something." Usually whenever I include those two words in a sentance does not exactly indicate smooth sailings. The last Super M went over like a bowling ball with wings, so hopefully the fact that I paid less, got more, and for the most part they all work, this may not be so bad. I will be putting them on a concrete slab under tarps for now, but when I get space they will be indoors. Uff da, basically, to answer your questions, too much, too big to hide. They aren't going to be hidden. It is me which will hide. Likely in my shop or doghouse. Hehehe, it won't be this bad...then again, maybe. Thanks for the post.

Thanks Mitch, for my smile for the day. I think you inflated my IH ego a little bit. :) Take care and have a nice day.

NO.

Don’t take this as a suggestion, but at current scrap iron prices, you could be arrested for swindling as you could probably double your money if you scrapped it! But, please don’t. Many of us and our children enjoy seeing and learning about the machinery of past generaions.
