I ran across a gentleman not too long ago who said that he was in the process of cleaning off his property and had some old farm equipment that he didnt want anymore. I asked him what his plans were for it and he said he was just going to cut it up and scrap it all. WHY!! Why must people scrap out old farm equipment? Unless it is completely beyond salvage, I can guarentee there is somebody that will be more than happy to purchase it or certainly just take it. So please, to anyone who thinks about gettin out the torch, please get the word out about the equipment to either sell it or give it away. This stuff isnt made anymore and its a shame to do that to our history.

I bought a SMTA from a neighbor who no longer fammed, was going to part it out as I always had green tractors, well many $ later it is a great user tractor. After buying the tractor with a blade on it I bought or was given most of the rest of his equipment. Since I have lots of old equipment I always need parts and sometimes just the iron for repairs. As a kid I remember dismanteling and scrapping out a working JD grain binder cause we no longer used it, also scrapped out a horse drqwn cultivator. Have kicked myself many times over the years.

IHC Man: One of the problems for guys like the man you describe, is by the time he advertises what he has, and couple that with items that no one wants, he is actually money in at the scrap yard. Big problem here of course is, to many busy people time is money.

I see a situation next door to me, owner gave items to a collector on the condition he clean it all up. Actually he did this twice. First guy came and took the cream and never heard tell of him again. Second guy did the same. Owner perhaps has a bigger mess now than when he started, as a result of dismantling on sight. Now there is no cash reward for anyone to clean up what is left.

Human nature is the problem here, these guys who take cream when they agreed to take all, make it bad for everyone. Shame, but I'm not sure what society could do with them. I don't think they will accept branding.

I delt with one of those characters that Hugh is talking about. I had about 100 ton of scrap and made a deal with a guy to load and haul it. He took 15 ton of the good stuff and I never saw him again. Spent all my spare time during the summer cleaning up the mess he left.

Same thing, paid the man to collect and haul,he took the copper and aluminum and left the rest.I'll never do that again, had to haul it anyway.I would love to be offered a deal somewhere near me like that now.You folks near Bristol,Virginia?Sounds like the same old cuss.Next time I will get a written contract and or witnesses and maybe that will help.
