I'm new to this, but am looking for a Super A. (learned to drive one on my granddad's farm 30 years ago.) Anyway, I see several for sale in the 1500 - 3000 price range. Just found a 1952 that is for sale by the second owner (since 1968)- he's a mechanic and has pretty detailed service records (his own notes), as well as manual, etc. This is a lot of background, but now the question - How much premium, if any, for knowing the history? he's asking 2500. Thanks for the help!

Considering that he is providing all of that information, I think that isn't a bad price. It sounds like you will have all the info you need to make a sound decision.

A lot depends on what part of the country you are as regards the going cost but one thing that doesn't travel is quality. If the gent says the tractor is in "rebuilt" condition, i.e. the tractor has been gone through recently, especially in the engine and transmission areas, then $2500 isn't a bad price since it would cost you at least that much to have the engine rebuilt. Also consider the tires and the steering, as they can cost you a pretty penny up front as well. If you are comfortable with his records and your test drive on those items, I would say it's a good price (being from North Carolina). Good luck, Super A's are great machines and if you take care of it, your grandkids will learn to love them as much as you.
