(1)I need to add some fluid to the lift on this tractor but don't know what weight to use. I have a shop manuel but it doesn't tell me.

(2)Also where is the fluid level checked at?

(3) I see a hex screw on the top of the shaft, is that where the fluid is added. I had to replace the lift handle and when I disconnected the hydraulic hoses a lot of fluid ran out so I am sure it is low.

thanks for any help, Jrry

If you're referring to the 240 built 1958-1962, the Hydra-Touch system has its own reservoir independent of the transmission fluid. The filler plug is at the upper left side of the torque tube casting (where it narrows down from the clutch housing). The drain plug is at the lower right side of the torque tube. This is the way mine was and I just now double-checked the owner's manual to refresh my memory.

The transmission and hydraulic system all use a common fluid (hy-tran) held in reserve in the rear end housing, There is a check plug on the left side of chassis in front of the clutch that takes a 9/16 wrench to open. The system should take app. 12 gallons to fill. If you are just topping off take the plug out add a gallon with a catch can below and add till it runs out the plug. Migraine

Jrry, what's the make of your loader? I have a 'Superior' loader on my 240 and the loader filler plug is on top of a tubular frame brace that angles down past the engine from high on the right side near the loader arm pivot. I added about 6 qts the other day until I could see the fluid at the bottom of the filler hole. I just used a generic Hydraulic-Transmission oil, rated for IH-
Case and other major manufacturers, sold at Sam's Club in 5-gal pails. It seems to work fine.

Dave, I'm referring to the two point lift hydraulics. That's where I lost some fluid. I do have some fluid like you mentioned. Will it be the same tyoe fluid for the two point and is the fill plug on top of the rock shaft? thanks

Going to have to let somebody else field this one, Jrry. Don't have a hitch on my 240 and can't give you any advice. Sorry!
