I just bought this BN and need some info, how can I find out what year it is, and what is this tractor worth? It was stored inside and is in very very good shape only missing the battery box cover. The engine will not turn over, but I am soaking the cylinders with WD 40. Sheetmetal is almost perfect. Can anyone please help with any info? Thanks Joe

Are you sure it's a BN? I just hear a lot of folks call Bs BNs thinking that the N means narrow front end. At any rate, take a look at the serial number, it will give you the year and some other interesting info.

If it is a BN you have a neat little tractor, not that B isn't neat, it's just that a BN is pretty low run production number wise. What's it worth, well that depends on where you live and if the right person is around.

I would find the serial tag like the other guy suggested and go from there.

I have seen literally hundreds of "B"s but never did see a "BN" in fact I have 2 "B"s and never knew there was a "BN" until I started visiting this forum.

Joe, the normal place for the serial number plate would have been on the inside orf the left hand seat support bracket. Keep in mind that the newest B would be 57 yrs old so many things can get changed in that span. Many folks removed the original seat configuration and installed the monroe system which no longer required the factory seat brackets. That would cause the serial number plate to be removed also. If you dont have a plate, however, there is a machined surface on the engine block directly beneath #1 sparkplug (front) scrape the paint off and wire brush that surface and perhaps you can read the engine number. If it has FAB prefix then you have a good chance that it is the original engine, but still no guarantee as it could have been replaced with another engine from a B. If the serial number falls within the parameters of the rest of the casting codes that further gives reason to believe that the engine is original to the tractor. the B should have a casting suffix codes of J, K, L, M, N, O, P, J being 1941, P being 1947. The menu on the left is helpful in finding and matching serial numbers. As to worth, I"ll tell you as I tell anyone else who asks that question after buying a tractor. It is worth exactly what you paid for it. It may be worth more or less to someone else, but what you paid is what it is worth to you. At this point, the money has been spent, you own a tractor, and now the fun begins. Enjoy your new toy.

To the left is a link to Serial Numbers. Look on the tractor for a silver tag with a serial number on it. I believe it is somewhere around the operator's platform on a B. There are also countless threads that tell you how to approximate the year of the tractor by the numbers on the castings.

There are also many threads on Bs in this forum with other information.
