I was thinking on putting duals on my H. How much of a differance do dual tires make in plowing snow?

Thanks,
Mark

I have a 1 ton ford that with duals on it will not go in 2 inches of snow. Pull the outer tires off and it will go just about anywhere no matter how much snow there is. Get the picture. Duals only for soft stuff not slick stuff

Duals double your foot print on the ground and half the lbs.per inch on surface of ground, good for soft ground work.just the opposite for snow, add a set of diamond cross chains and go for it.

Hi Robert,

Your chains, a couple of sets of full weights and fill those rear pups to the brim with calcium chloride and you won't be able to stop that tractor.

I tried plowing a late season snowfall with duals on a JD 4230 once upon a time. That outside dual will catch a snow bank and spin ya 'round. If you go slower it will ride up on the snow, and render the inside tire useless. All in all I had better luck, finding teeth on a hen, than I did plowing with duals on.

Duals may make your tractor width wider than your plow. This would severly restrict your ability to push forward.
Check dimensions before investing.

Mark,

I would think that a set of duals would make your traction issue just twice as bad when trying to move snow.

You would be compounding the problem.

Dunno,

Allan

Allan: Your right on, I went for one of the merriest rides of my life spreading manure with 1066, with duals, 12 ton spreader. I wasn't long getting rid of those duals. More rubber just doesn't cut it on frozen ground.

Allan, I agree, it would just make things worse. Spreading the weight over twice the area would equal 1/2 the traction.
