Did the 1939 H come out with fenders as a option? The ertil toy 39 H has no fenders. But lists the options as a draw bar, Hyd, and lights. Also saw some place what the options were but fenders were not mentioned. Every thing on my 39 H is oraginal including the seat and I want to keep it that way. It has shutters also and wondering if they were standard.

Bottom line: the fenders are hardly worth getting sweaty about. They don't even look good.

The earliest listing I have seen of fenders (I have not checked the 1939 sales lit) is the Jaunary 1940 Special Attachments manual. I have a feeling that there is a 1939 print date special attachments manual, but I have not seen one. In 1939 the manuals issued for the tractors were quite unique, as there is a special manual for the lighting attachment & the info in this manual would appear quite odd to most collectors...

Checking 1940 List Price book, don't see fenders listed for either H or M.

General Catalog for 1940 shows options not in the price book, but still no fenders.

Bernard, your H was a distillate burner and shutters were necessary on all distilate tractors to get them hot enough to run efficiently on kerosene. There was also a metal shield that fit around the manifold to pre heat the fuel for better efficiency. As far as I know fenders were an option for all the H models. Seems strange though that just about every H I see in southern Ontario has fenders, while pictures of H's from the southern states are often without fenders..they may have been removed to attatch cotton pickers and such machinery. H and M fenders are identical and interchangeable. Are there 4 holes tapped in the axle housing, if so you can install fenders....Mike in Exeter Ontario

Fenders were a option and not widely bought in the south, a fendered letter or hundred series farmall is a rarity south of the line. They were considered "excess waste" of money by most. My grandpa and dad never bought any because of the cost and the bottom line.

Michael:

I grew up on Hs and MS in South (some of them new) and never knew fenders were availale until I made trip through Midwest after I was grown. Same thing for wide fronts. Some die hards even special ordered tricyle tractors up to mid sixtys.

That's true, but still...
I'm as Southern as you can get, and I love my old H dearly, but an 806 trike is down right odd looking.

Most of our 806"s were sold tricycle front and without fenders. We did not sell any fenders on 06"s untill after 1206 came out. Also, wide front axles just started becoming popular about mid run of the 06 series.
