Since my last post, I found what most said I would. Rust-gummy grease and just plain dirty. Am ready to put it back together and have another question. Are the impulse plates installed dry or with a light film of oil or something on them????? ? Also, how tight do I tighten the nut which hold the impulse assembly on????? ?? Thanks for the past help and any other help I may recieve. JIM in ILL. 30 miles south of Peoria

It should be snugged down tight. Were talking inch pounds not foot pounds. How tight was it when you removed the nut. Remrmber this spins at crankshaft speed so you want it tight enough it wont spin off. The thread is around 3/8 you should not tighten it as if it was a 3/8 bolt.

yes, a film of light oil is good. I don"t know what you mean by tightning the nut? tyring to keep the mag from turning? I generaly just wedge a screwdriver in the impulse.
