I see there is an auction coming up with a 330 on it. A friend who has been and inspected the tractors claims it is an industrial model painted yellow. Does anyone have any information on these?

If the 330 was sold for industrial use it could have such things as 24 inch rear rims, heavy duty front axle(non-adjustable) & hubs, 5.50 X 16 front wheels, no pto or fast hitch. A farm version will usually have 28 in. rear rims, 4.25 X 16 fr. wheels, adjustable fr. axle, pto and fast hitch. It could also have a combination of the above. Most likely it was, as Paul said, a highway dept. tractor used for mowing. I really can't see a 330 being very useful as an industrial tractor, not enough h.p. for weight.

To summarize what the others said, the engines in the 300/350 are C169's/C175's and are larger displacement engines derived from the C152 in the H, followed by the C164 in the Super H -- You already know that, along with: the C135 in the 330 is a larger displacement C113/C123 that orginated in the A,B,C, etc, or more accurately the F12/14, or maybe earlier, I don't know. As the others said the yellow means it was probably a highway dept tractor. I do not know if the industrial 300/330/350 differed in any way from the ag versions. That is probably what you were asking.

An IH history book I read explained it thusly:

From the original H to the 350, the basic tractor had received a major increase in horsepower. From the C to the 230, the increase wasn't so dramatic, so there was a huge gap between the 230 and 350. IH intended to remedy this in the next series (i.e. 140, 240, 340, 460, 560).

It just so happened that the 340 engine was ready during the production of the 350 Utility, so someone at IH had the brilliant idea of putting the 340's engine on the 350 Utility rear end, and fill the existing gap. Thus, the 330 was born.

Here's an idea for a unique project: Instead of building more Super H-TAs, how about a FARMALL 330?

The 330 Utility was a 350U with a smaller engine. They were red/white.If its yellow, its either a former state highway tractor,or someone wanted to own a Caterpillar reallllly bad....

330s are rather rare, but seem to be showing up more lately.
You might say the 330 is the smaller brother of the 300U,and the 350U.(chassis size the same though).

Hello, I owned a 330U and a 300U at the same time and had to say the 300 was a better built tractor though they are very similar. The hydraulic pump on the 330 seems not as stout as on the 300 and the 300 had down pressure which the 330 did not.Good Luck, YC

There is a pin below the hitch cylinder that needs to be in place for down pressure to work.
