Hi gang,

Been away for a while, sharing time with my boy, back from Iraq with 1st Marines (yeah, I"m the "Toughest Thing I Ever Did" guy from last February.) Lot"s, lot"s, and lot"s of stories and experiences, but it"s been a great seven months having him home. And, all of your prayers and wishes helped us a bunch through his first deployment.

Well, time is up and he heads back for tour 2 in a few days. Same spot (Fallujah), similar mission, and another 7 months in the sand and heat. Please keep him in mind - Farmall and the Corps aren"t red without good reason. They"re both tough and mean business.

I"ll keep you posted.

John

John, Its good to hear that your son is home. My grandson got back a week ago last Thursday, and I cant even begin to explain the joy. Your son will once again be in my prayers when he returns for tour #2, as everyone held my grandson in their prayers. While it seems like it is all we can do, I cant help but think that prayer may be the most important thing we can do for our brave soldiers. "Semper Fi".

Looking forward to 8 months or so when your son is back home again. He is in our prayers. We have a grandson going thru MOS training in Camp Lejeune at the present time.

I like your thought about Marines and Farmalls. I grew up with Farmalls, spent some time in the Marine Corps & now have a Farmall of my own. They do go together & nothing is better, IMO.

I'm partial to Marines but I really admire all of the men and women in our Armed Forces. May God bless each and everyone of them.

I flew over 400 combat missions in VN. A lot of them in close air support for Marines in the south.
As the "Navy's Army" they hold a special spot in the heart of this old carrier fighter jock. Godspeed to him and all his commrades

If I remember correctly from my boot camp days, the Chief of Naval Operations was not in the chain of command. The Secretary of the Navy (Paul Nitze at the time) was, but he was (is)only a Presidentlal appointee. The Marines work for the Commandant and the President who is the Commnder-in-Chief.

Most Marines would take umbrage at being called the Navy's army.

When you mentioned "South" not sure what you mean. With the possible exception of some of the Recon units, all Marines in country were in I Corps or attached to the embassy in Saigon.

Doc, I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle. My dad had Parkinson's for thirty years, so I understand.
It may not be politically correct to say this, but I believe in our mission in Iraq and really do appreciate the service men, both "then" and "now". That's you too, Gordo

I would like to say that dispite my Canadian Goverments lack of support to our allies there are many many canadians that respect what you all are going through there. The job they have to do and what them and their families go through is more then I can imagine. All I can say is my prayers are with you all. I hope this all comes to an end soon and all return safely.
