Hey guys...Not looking for self incrimination here but I am wondering how you dispose of the many types of filters one seems to collect with these tractors. I've got a rack of them. The labels on the shipping containers all say to "dispose of properly" but thats all they say. My waste oil goes to a fellow to heat his farm shop.

Thanks Butch

Local auto parts place (O'Rielly)will accept filters and old oil for recycling. Might check auto parts places in your area.

I save mine till I make a trip to town. A local oil company collects waste oil and filters for recycling at no cost. I beleive they even will make trips out to collect larger volumns.

I posed this question to my division director at work. He also manages the solid waste department. I work for the government - I'm here to help you. But I digress. I did ask about filter disposal and I use synthetic oil too, if that makes any difference.

The answer was, and your mileage may vary, that all household solid wastes are burned in a high temperature incinerator. They burn anything I discard, and at a high enough temperature that it would cause no significant pollution problems. He did say to *not* burn the filter in any other manner. The nasties it would give off would do more damage than just tossing it in the usual trash.

I don't know how your local disposal company handle your trash, but it appears that you do the least harm when you drain the filter and simply throw it in the trash. By the way, my local trash company takes my waste oil at no extra charge when I put it in a properly labled container and then dump it in my recycle basket. This makes disposal a breeze.

I let mine drain in the funnel into my waste oil bucket for a couple weeks, then throw them away, they're pretty well dry by then.

Ditto..... Helps keep the shop warm, and prepares carcass for scrap pile.

I have a crusher attachment for my bench press and the filters come out 1" tall or less.(OTC sells/sold that,it wasnt all that expensive really). All the old oil in them drains down to an empty plastic windshield washer solvent jug.The filters then get separated at the local recycling center (and the oil gets collected as well).
The spin on cans crush very easily, takes almost no pressure to flatten them.

Local dump had a thing you put the oil filters in and it crushed them flat and squeezes out more oil and it drips into the big oil disposal tank.Empty bottles of oil are put into this rig that had holes in it to hold about 20 bottles of oil, take off the caps and sit the bottles into the hole and it drains overnite. They make about 5 quarts of oil over a week or so.They filter that and use it for various things.Fuel and tranny filters pretty much go into the recycle bin like they are.BEst part is all I have to do is pull up the the little shed the yhave and they take care of the rest.
