Is it just my 300U or is there supposed to be a ton of slack between the throttle lever, the roll pin,and the actual pivot? Seems I can move the lever 1/2 way before the roll pin engages the pivot. Its like the roll pin is way undersized for the pivot hole, yet it fits the lever like a glove.

I have a regular 300, not "U", which has some problems with the throttle/governor. Just where is the roll-pin that you have been discussing located? Down by the governor, or some place up by the dash?

Thanks
Tex

It's not just yours ! They can be fixed though. After 50 years of use every joint on the linkage is worn. The roll pin is a good place to start. Most likely the rod that the lever fastens to has the hole for roll pin wallowed out. It can be welded up & redrilled or you may go to the next larger size roll pin. Every connection probably need to be drilled oversize and bushings installed, as well as building up the rods. By doing each connection the linkage can be made as good as new.

I was just looking at the same thing this morning on a 300U that belongs to my neigbor. I think maybe I am going to pull out the roll pin and drill out the hole on the shaft and the lever to a slightly larger size and then run a little bolt through it instead of the pin. This one goes about 3/4 of the way before it moves the throttle shaft. It is just worn out of whack.
