On our 966, the fuel tank overflowed when we filled it up and the fuel gauge quit working soon after. It is really weird. When you turn the key, the needle moves up a little bit, and when you hit a big bump, it will bounce. However, it refuses to show the level in the tank. Is the ground bad or something? Any help would be appreciated.

Chadd,

Run a ground wire jumper to the SENDER SIDE of your gauge. That should force it to read full.

If it does, you've got a bad wire, connection or sender.

If it does not, you've got a bad gauge. (Problem is usually in the sender side, however).

This might be a dumb question, but is that the side of the gauge with the wire that is connected to the sensor in the tank? I have never looked at the back of it, how many poles are on the back of the gauge?

Yep,

Most of 'em have three terminals, but one is just a ground for the case. Don't ground that 12 volt feed or you'll warm 'er up.

Ground the sender terminal.

Thanks. Now I just have to find time to get the cover off from under the cab to try it.

Already have one. Broke a branch off of a nearby tree right after the gauge quit. What I really need to find is a stick that will read as I drive! Then, I won't bother fixing the gauge.

On that gauge, the needle would sit right under the line between 0 and $25.
