Hi Bob, Got generator rebuilt and a new regulator, Put it all on Saturday and nothing. Tried to repolarize. Nothing. Did your check list and it didn't seem to help me a whole lot. I went back to the farm today and took a cell phone so I could call the man that rebuilt and tested the generator. First thing was my batt was dead so I had to jump the tractor. Checked with my volt meter the Batt terminal on the reg to a ground. Showed 6 volts tractor on,1.2v with tractor off. I know the battery must be all the way down. Checked the post on the batt running and it showed 6v. To make a little space I decided to take the light wire off the L term on the regulator. As soon as I did that it showed 7.4 v and the generator and the same on the batt post. And the amp gauge deflected to the poss side for the first time. At this time I've left the light wire off and have taken the batt home to put on the charger. What's your thoughts on all of this. The lights are not even on this tractor right now but the wireing is still in place. This was all done with the light switch in the L setting all the way at the bottom. The only thing I see that's not right in the light switch box is the small coiled wire that is a resistor for the dim setting is in half. The grass is really starting to grow here in MO. Are you thawing out up there?

Hi Paul!

Something is causing a current drain from the regulator L terminal when the L wire is connected. Suspect messed up wiring inside the switch box, or possibly the light switch itself is bad.

If your tractor doesn�t have lights you can simply leave the L wire disconnected and leave it that way. Or if you are feeling ambitious you can try to track down and correct the fault.

Note � Since you now have a voltage regulator, the L and H positions on the light switch are now simply two �off� positions for the lights. L and H should otherwise have no effect on the charging system operation.

Snow has pretty much melted here though there's still some piles left in the shade. PLENTY snowmelt however � many of the low-lying fields are under water right now. ...Bob
