i was finally able to bust out tonight! went and picked up my new disc last night(not the neighbors). i stopped half way at a buddies so he could disc his pasture quick and i could see what needed to be adjusted. got it home last night and worked late fixing and adjusting and loosening and etc. got home from work tonight, fired up the old 766 and hooked up and went to it!!!! it's a decent 18' 470 IH with a 2 bar harrow on the back. pulled real nice and did a great job for only once over. the 766 handled it just fine in 4L so sorry allen, no trade! i'm planting a pasture mix in this field so it'll need a few more passes to get it ready so i'll get pictures this weekend.

Mornin' Casey,

18' sounds just perfect! We were talkin' there for awhile like it was going to end up being a 20 footer and I knew that would be a bit too much tug.

Glad you have your new disc. Aren't they just one sweet machine? Is it a hydraulic fold or a spring-loader?

Pass the pictures, please.

Allan

it was a spring fold, but the gentleman took the springs off and bolted the wings down. the harrow does not fold with the disc so even if you were to fold the wings up you still got the harrow back there 18' wide! it won't see any road travel so i'm not concerned.

Hi Again,

The only time I could ever get a hint of black smoke outta my old 766 was with the 18" disk or when following the plow with the packer.

You seeing any smoke with "er?

only when i hit a tuff spot, otherwise no smoke. ran in 4L at 3/4 throttle, never touched the T/A, direct the whole time, throttled down at the head rows. ran like a champ. she had alot less blow by by the time i was done!!!! it had pretty good blow by and i was never able to load it up so i let it get about 2 quarts low on oil over the winter and topped it off with some lucas oil treatment before i started. cleared right up.

Happy to hear your 766 could pull the IH disk. I had a similar setup a few years back and I had plenty of power pulling it with a 756. Marv
