Convert axle mount loader to mid mount?

Hello,

I need a loader for my 706. I can't afford a quick-tach, so that leaves the old axle mount types. The problem is the tractor has an aftermarket?? three point which bolts to the axle and pretty much takes up all of the space. I really don't want to take the fenders off. My question then is it possible to convert an axle mount loader to a mid mount? It seems like if someone was handy w/ a torch and welder they could make a braket that goes around the tractor like the new loaders have and then cut the old axle mounts off and mount it to the new subframe. Maybe even make it a quick-tach? Has anyone tried this or seen it done? Am I missing something? Thanks for the help!

That should work....the axel loader would have longer cylinders so the mid mount would go up faster and higher --- go easy and check it out.

Steve, I did it a few years ago with a Farmhand F228 and a 4020. Basically, the vertical supports that hold the lift arms of the loader were cut off at the bottom. Then I moved the mounting brackets all the way back on the sides of the tractor and built pivoting brackets for the front, so the loader could pivot on to take it off. it worked great, but all these style loaders put a lot of weight on the front end. Good luck.

Shouldn"t be an issue. Plenty of cheap, non-quick tach mid-mount loaders out there.

Let's come at it from the other end. Why does a 706 have an aftermarket 3 point? Wouldn't it be easier to sell the aftermarket 3 point, find the correct hitch at a salvage yard, and then you could use the axle mount loader. Another thought, how about a rear 3 point mounted bucket?

Steve,

Do the two units line up whereas you can mount both units using the same axle clamp? Loader on the front, hitch on the back?

Allen,
I hadn't thought of that, but I don't think it would work. The bottom part of the 3 pt mount hangs below the axle. It's a triangular piece of cast about 4-5" wide on the top (axle side) and narrowing down to probably an inch on the bottom. I had thought about making an adapter to put on the end of the tubing on the loader and drilling holes in the piece of cast, but it makes me a little nervous to have that much weight hanging on something so small. I'm not sure if my description makes sense or not, but let me know and I'll try to explain better. Thanks!
