I recently saw some really nice parts sell on eBay that looked like they were pulled off a fully restored tractor. I hope someone is not selling parts from a stolen tractor. The seller stated the parts are off a tractor they are parting out, so what could be so bad that it would be better to scrap it than fix what went wrong? Who would sell a fully restored tractor to a scrap yard knowing it would be parted? All the parts were nicely painted and shiny. I just really don't like it when people scrap good tractors for a quick buck.

Unfortuantely, there are some slavage yards that do scrap fully restored,or good condition, running tractors. Its a shame, but its nessecary these days to do so.It offers you the best possible part, save them labor and time cleaning up used parts, which in turn saves you and them money.I dont agree with it by no means, but I do think its nessacary from time to time.Besides,if you need a part, would you care if it came off a prestine bueaty or a working tractor?I wouldnt,if I needed it bad enough!

Not sure what they were off of but if they were a 460D or a 560D they could have been mine. I bought a 560D fully restored, with a hole in the block you could stick your arm through. Bought it for the pump that was on it to put on a 460D that needed one. Didnt need a 560 with a bad engine and no pump so I parted the rest.

About five years ago I bought a blade for my super C on E-bay. The ole boy lived up in north Iowa and my son and I made a trip up to get it. When we got there we went into his shop. He had 12 to 15 of the most immaculate JD tractors I have ever seen. I mean they where show room perfect with custom leather covers for the stacks and covers over the seats. Pro paint jobs. He said he had just got them all in an estate sale, bought the entire collection. Here is the bad part, He was parting all of them out. He had two stripped down layed out in boxes. He said some JD collectors had tried to buy them from him but he could make way more $ parting them. I bet their owner was rolling over in his grave.I'm not against parting tractors but this seemed a bit much.

Just because they were painted up real nice doesn't mean that they were perfect. But assume they were perfect, the people that made offers probably could have gotten the tractor they wanted if they were willing to pay the top dollar. Just my opinion.

John, I keep extra parts on hand and I often clean them up, prime and paint them when I am painting other items. If someone I know needs something I have they will be getting the painted version. I hate to see tractors parted out too but we had a discussion here some months ago and those parted out tractors keep several other tractors going because someone always needs parts. I get the "Western Ontario Farmer" and there are several ads in there each week from the established tractor wreckers announcing what tractors they have gotten in to part out, some not that old, but as Cowman says there is more money in parts than in the total tractor. I was interested in a tractor sitting at a wreckers but he wouldn't put a price on it( we both knew full well the price would be ridiculous because what it is worth in parts prices it out of the market as a tractor.) Maybe it makes our tractors more valuable in the vicious circle of antique and special interest tractors. Mike in Exeter Ontario

could be a stolen tractor but I doubt it. Some preople think the parts sell better if they are primed and painted but I have better luck selling with the dirt on. I know some people think whole tractors shouldn't be parted but the truth is they are worth more in pieces than they are whole. But no, it is not a fast buck, it is dam hard work.
