Finally had a nice day to paint the H, got it primered and shot the first coat of red on and caught a glimpse of something stuck to my respirator. Turned out to be the first of thousands and thousands of Mayflies. Fortunately they have small feet and big wings and I was able to pick off the 50 or so that stuck. They'll all but disappear by tomorrow and I can finish up. Can't get mad at Mother Nature after all.

I just got back from Hibbing and yes the mayflies are quite a spectacle, along with the army worms, deer flies, you name it!!! I rowed my canoe to within 10 feet of a huge Loon on her nest...breathtaking...there are exceptions to the bug misery.

Are you from Brainerd, Minnesota? If so, just wondering how you can find a day without deerflies, mosquitoes, and chiggars getting into the paint. I was born and raised in St. Cloud, and used to go "oop nort" fishing.. miserable insects there.

Yep, Brainerd Minnesota.
To avoid the mosquitos and deer flys, you've got to paint in the rain:>) This afternoon about a million dragonflys hatched out to eat all of the mayflies. It just keeps getting better and better. We go to St Cloud to eat once in a while. Nothing fancy around here. Just some kind of meat and potatos with plenty of brown lumpy gravy. You know the deal.
