One of my neighbors told me he uses 75Wt Gear oil in the trans and PTO of his 300 Farmall.
What's the concensus of the owners of these older "beauties" as to what should be used in the trans and pto? What do you guys use? (I'm thinking about buying this 300 to restore)

Thanks in Advance - IB

The manual for the Farmall 300 says SAE-80 for the transmission/TA, and SAE-10w for the IPTO. I suspect most just use hydraulic/transmission fluid like Hy-Tran, TDH, etc.

This has been answered before, but.. The SMTA/ 300/400 were manufactured before IHC got the correct lube figured out for TA equiped tractors. The manual calls for heavy gear lube, later IHC called for a Trademarked "additive" to make it work better, followed shortly thereafter by the introduction of Hy Tran which superceeded both the gear lube and additive. So Hy Tran is the latest/current Trans fluid. Note if you are changing to Hy Tran from heavy lube stand by for posible leaks. My nickel Dick Davis
