460D Running, But Not Too Good

I put the reconditioned injectors back on this morning. Had one bad glow plug too. It has been replaced. Got diesel fuel at the injectors. The system seems bled out. It would not start though. We pulled it and it smoked and tried to fire, but the timing seemed off. I re-timed it. This time it ran when we pulled it, but not very good. Pulled it for quite awhile before it started.

Three of the injector seals (rubber rings) seem to be leaking. Tightened them down, but 2 are still leaking some. Are there supposed to be metal rings at the top next to the injector rubber seals. Seems like they would seal okay.

How sensitive is the timing of the pump? I thought if I got it close, it would probably run okay, but it seems like the timing is off and it has kind of a surge going. It doesn"t power up well. I think I have it pretty close to where it should be though. Did the TDC on #1 cyl and matched up the pump timing marks. I was able to drive it back to the utility pole where we can charge up the battery. Will try more later.

Any tips would be appreciated. We"re going to get this thing going one way or another.

Ron it sure sounds like you might be 180 out of time, I would double check that.

They have an o-ring at the top to keep dirt and water out of the bore. The actual compression sealing is done with the steel washers between the pre cup and head and the pre cup and injector. If you have a leak at the o-ring you need to pull the injector and pre cup out and clean them and the sealing surface in the injector bore. You will also probably need four new sealing washers for the two that are leaking.

Thanks! I"ll pull the leaking injectors and clean out the bores better. There probably is some carbon in there. I thought the 0 rings had something to do with the seal.

Maybe once the leaks are stopped, it will run better. Seems like this tractor will have a lot of power once running right. Wish I could get it timed right though. I can turn the pump to some degree to time it. I guess I will rotate it one direction and see if that improves anything. Not sure which direction to go first. Thanks again.
