Mornin Gene, I pulled the final drives off my Super A this weekend and the left brake is soaked with gear lube because the differential axle seal is shot. The brake lining is fine other than being soaked with gear lube. Question is can I save that brake by heating it to remove the gear lube or should I just get a new brake? Thanks.

You can get brake cleaner in spray cans, at auto parts houses. That is good stuff, and easier to use then a can of solvent and a brush.

I would just wash it with solvent maybe 2 times and let it dry in the sunshine for a few days and then reinstall. Have had great success that way. Thwy can sure be in greasy messes some times but it has worked for me. Thanx for the interest as I have had a bunch apart last few yrs. Did put one drum in the lathe and cut with a sharp point tool and it was probably a better brake than when new. Just always keep in mind that we arent building a NASCAR machine just want a piece of old history working. Have fun and good luck.
