Noticed that my 560's PTO shaft has a lot of play. You can actually see it move upwards as you move the lever to engage it, with the engine off. I'm thinking the bearings are going to need to be replaced, but I'm afraid of what else might be bad. It's the planetary type, I've heard the brake pads are expensive. I know a guy who has a good unit out of a 400, but I don't know what to offer him. Any thoughts? Also, is it possible to install a late-style 560 PTO unit in a early 560?

No , as the shaft speed are differant due to the differant gearing down off the pressure plate to the thru shaft.
