After several hours of hard pulling with cheater finally got the outer nuts and retainers off the SMTA rims. And the brakes came off easy. Now the hard part. This old gal was a dairy farm tractor. Get the picture? Have soaked the inner nuts for a couple of days. Tried the air, nope. Tried the cheater, nope, cut one with cold chisel. That's not another option. One is spinning, will need neighbor with another cheater on the other side. Only got 10 to go. What's an easier way? There's no room to use a sawsall or die cutter in there. Hell, what's the hardest way to get them off? Got to pull the wheel in order to pull the axle assembly, in order to pull the inner wheel bearing. I found a .6835 diameter ball bearing, and six pieces of the bearing cage in the tranny case bottom when I pulled the PTO.Is that the sizi of the inner axle shaft bearing balls? (note: no half moon key in the pto shaft keyway). Have a mountain of parts laying on the floor and I'm not 1/2 way there yet?

Flame wrench. Depending on your time frame you can just cut them and replace them or you might get lucky by just heating them cherry red hoping the heat will do the trick, or if your really good you can split the nut with the torch and save the bolt.

I agree with Rusty and Lee, drag out the torch.
Nothing better than heat. Hal

I know exactly what you are talking about, my 1940 H gave me the same trouble. I don't know if it had been used on a dairy farm, but it definately had been through the same kind of stuff. I had to heat the nuts cherry red with a torch. If you want to remove the bolts, you will probably end up heating the wheel around the bolts. Just figure that it took about 50 years for it to get that way, it's going to take at least a few days to undo it.
