Would anyone feel its alright to put a spike on my narrow front end H to carry round bales around. Or is that asking for trouble? Thanks Troy

The only thing I use to feed the 50 head of beef cattle is a narrow front H with a manure bucket loader. It works good. It has no fluid in the tires and only has one set of wheel weights. I have never had a problem.

The spike will weigh less than a bucket/grapple fork so this will help. As far as the narrow front, they are a bit easier to tip than a wide front, will steer harder, but will stand up to the load. I would suggest that if you are going to lift heavy loads with a a loader on an H, you put the braces between where the loader mounts on the side frame rails and the rear axle like Allen in NE has done. This will help prevent the torque tube from breaking under load. Like others have said, keep the load low to the ground for safety's sake.

It can be done, the H will lift it, I have done it, I DO NOT recommend it.

I've been doing it 15 years with a front end loader, you can carry bales up to 1000# any thing larger would be hard on your front end also dangerious .I have 3 wheel weights on each rear wheel also have 3 point and carry one on the rear M&w live hyd pump with after market 3 valve.

You talking as in on a loader or are you talking on a 3 point. Yes I know Hs don't have 3 points but you could have added one. If your talking about do it on a loader I don't see any harm in doing so as long as you keep the bale low. Even when I move a bale with my tractor with wide front end I keep it as low as I can. With that much weight up high you can flip any tractor.

lekander,

Might derend on wt. of bale, loader lift capacity or 3pt lift capacity. Also with 3rth you may need to add wt.to the front of the tractor.

I have an H and I have hauled big round bales with a loader. It is hard to steer but it works. Like a previous post you want to carry them low. I no longer have a loader on my H but I do have a 3 point and carry one on the back, understnding the bale has to be in the 1000# range or less.
